Seroprevalence of Human Papillomavirus Infection among Female Sex Workers in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Southern India

Introduction: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are generally acquired through sexual contact, and the risk is very high for Female Sex Workers (FSWs). The most common STI in FSWs Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Majority of HPV infection asymptomatic, while a minority responsible causing cervical cancer. High-Risk (HR-HPV) serotypes, 16 18, known to cause Aim: To determine seroprevalence among attending STD clinic at tertiary care hospital Southern India. Materials Methods: This cross-sectional study was done during period between September 2015 August 2016 total 65 Govt. Statistical analysis using Package Social Sciences (SPSS) 20.0 software. Probability value (p-value) <0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: Analysis samples showed that four found positive infection, two each HIV STIs 20 samples. Among samples, three 16, one 18. Risk factors age, marital status, HIV, syphilis had strong association with (p-value<0.01). Conclusion: prevalence HR-HPV serotype higher than Hence, education about safer practices, vaccination essential this population order prevent transmission general population.
